Earth Friendly T Shirt Rag Rugs - Recycle "Retired" Tee Shirts into useful rugs!

Hi, My name is Naomi Hedden.

All these rug creations are based on something my mother did when I was young.

Mama always seemed to figure out a solution to household problems.
For instance, one winter the linoleum floors seemed especially cold. the wind would come in around the bottom of the cabinets. (The fact that we girls were young and managed to get quite a lot of dishwater on the floor may have had a bit to do with it also)!
Mama got out her store of fabric and chose several colorful pieces. I remember her tearing or cutting them into long strips and then sewing the ends of each strip together... It seemed to take a long time just for that.
Then she sat in the living room and crocheted two long narrow rugs to go in front of the counters.
Warm, Thick and Absorbent, they lasted quite a while.

Each piece is based on that story and it is a true one, by the way. You can read more of the story here...
Unlike Mom, though, I discovered that tee shirts are a great source of rug material. they are plentiful, coming in such a vast array of colors!  I have found an easy way to cut them up in a continuous strip!
